Guess Mark had to wait until the polls showed overwhelming support AGAINST the mine. In the meanwhile, Mark wanted us all to know that he’s “independent as Alaska”, because while I don’t have a clue what it means, like Mark, I think it sounds good. I long for the days of courageous and true leaders like Ted Stevens who came to almost the identical conclusion announced yesterday by Begich over 7 years ago. Senator Stevens didn’t need polls or an EPA report to stand behind to give him courage. His courage came from inside – – he knew the difference between right and wrong. That’s the kind of politician Alaska and our country needs more of. My message to Senator Begich : better late than never.
