- Both GOP candidate Dan Sullivan and Gov. Sean Parnell have said, including in a statement in response to a question by a KTVA reporter, that Sullivan knew nothing about the National Guard scandal when he was Alaska’s AG. However, that fact didn’t stop KTVA reporter Kate McPherson from reporting that Sullivan won’t answer questions about it. It also kept her from including a statement from Sullivan in her original story. The Daily Kos, to name just one, salivated. “The scandal that threatens Alaska Republicans,” they wrote. For sure.
- In a recent interview Sen. Mark Begich has made a few remarks that have caused a mini uproar. In an interview with both the Alaska Dispatch and the Washington Examiner, Begich said what many other Democratic candidates have been too scared to do, admitted that he had voted for Obama. That’s not the only eyebrow raising remark said on record, oh no. “Obama is not relevant” is beginning to trend amongst Outside media groups. USA Today, the HuffingtonPost, The Week, Fox News, BritBart and many more.
- Is it a coincidence that the day that Sarah Palin endorses the Unity Ticket over her old LG, that Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball changed from Toss-up to Lean I? That endorsement also caught the attention of the National Journal, so there’s that.
- Don Young is making another media cycle stemming from his apology about what he said to a group of school children two days ago. According to the Dispatch, Young is now standing behind his comments to the kids and has added government to his blame game.
- Sen. Mark Begich better hold onto his hat because Politico has announced that the NRSC is planning media blasts against “vulnerable Dems with relentless charges that they’re Obama rubber stamps.”
- AlJazeera America has a piece by Kyle Hopkins regarding not just our U.S. Senate candidates working the Bush Alaska crowd hoping to win over voters, but how this segment of the population is part of each campaigns money-ball for the Senate seat.
- Politico reports that DNC’s chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz told CNN that Democrats are actually going to be “expanding the map” while “the Republicans’ map is constricting” after the November elections. When Alaska is brought up, Wasserman Schultz explained that Alaska is more of a purple state and she is focusing on picking up seats in red-blood states like Kentucky, Georgia, and South Dakota. I bet hearing Alaska was “more purple than blue” made Care Clift happy.
- Anchorage Assemblymen Dick Traini and Paul Honeman are planning legislative changes to curb predatory practices by the towing industry within the municipality. The Dispatch has the details of what these proposed changes would mean as improved rights for drivers and potential hurdles in passing these changes.
- Charles Johnson with GotNews tweeted that they are “going to light up a bunch of Sen candidates between now and election night.” Included in his hashtags, #aksen.
- KTVA and KTUU both reported that the Pebble Partnership is suing the EPA again, this time because the agency “improperly withheld” documents after a FOIA request. The Pebble Partnership is also claiming that the EPA and anti-Pebble groups met in secret meetings, because the EPA had already made the decision to “pre-judge and block” the Pebble Mine before completing their study of the proposed mine’s plans.
- The Peninsula Clarion reports that central Kenai Peninsula firefighters are having crash course in learning how to handle hash oil explosions with marijuana legalization on Alaska’s horizons. Hash oil explosion is similar to meth explosions in both scope and severity.
- The AFN convention is in town with many political faces being seen mixing in the crowds and glad-handing anyone within arms reach before they face their opponents in a battle royale over Native issues before a captive audience. The Dispatch reports that one politician running for a statewide office isn’t feeling so welcome, Mayor Dan Sullivan was accidently left off the debate invite list. This is a problem because not only are endorsements on the line, but also exposure to potential new voters.
- The Fairbanks News Miner reports that Gov. Sean Parnell’s administration is appealing to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse the lower court’s decision that made marriage equality a reality in Alaska. This appeal is also expected to go nowhere.
- Jewel Lake State Senate candidate Clare Ross released a new ad against Rep. Mia Costello. It’s a doozy.

KTVA –
Kan’t Talk Very Accurately
What is Parnell’s obsession against gays?
Senate candidate Clare Ross seems like a nice person and has been campaigning hard. This new tv ad leaves a lot to be desired. She seems to strident, jumps around too much and changes dispositions too much. Besides, for it to have any real impact, it’ll need more repetitions of play than she’s probably bought. Iit’ll be lost in the clutter of ads.
That chick at KTVA dates a dude at the FDNM who is as dull and irresponsible as she is. Birds of a feather flock together. Besides, quit complaining. People don’t watch that station anyway. That’s why they allow these types of journalists to muck around so they can get some attention and viewers, sort of like the National Enquirer type news. I heard that KTVA tomorrow will be reporting on the three headed moose rider and sharing the debate about does he get one vote or three. Stay tuned!
KTVA’s Kate McPherson’s story about former AG Dan Sullivan and the National Guard scandal is a mystery to me. Is the reporter that dumb and ill-informed or does she have a political agenda of her own? Likewise, where was the station’s news director during this fiasco of irresponsible journalism?
It wouldn’t be the first time a KTVA reporter used the station to promote a reporter’s political agend. Remember Charo F#*k It? Yep, the news director was on top of that one too. Here’s the real question: why would anyone watch the clowns at KTVA when the option of KTUU exists?
Thank you Jon,
Yep, how many months after they were requested ?
The cover up of the cover up is always worse than the crime.
“14 October 2010 – I took an outline of the many issues and moral lapses in the AKNG [Alaska National Guard] to my neighbor, an attorney and a judge who is a personal friend of Sean Parnell, and he thought the list was serious enough to pass along to the Governor. He said he could not do it himself, as it would be a conflict of interest because of his position as a judge. He passed it along to another friend who is Parnell’s personal attorney. The outline was mean to spark discussion, which I was freely and willingly ready to enter. Nothing came of the outline.”

One has to wonder, how many yes votes is that harangue is going to cost ballot measure two?
These Pro-Marijuana folks shot themselves in the foot the last time they got legalization on the ballot and seem to be willing to do it again.
Look dude, I’d be willing to help (as would lots of other folks) but you have got to start by helping yourself.
Lynn,
The emails are being released according to APRN
Regarding the KTVA report; from Wikepedia: “Dan Sullivan’s last day acting as Alaska’s Attorney General was December 5, 2010.”
Look again at the time line of this National Guard scandal. Retired Chaplain Lt. Col. Cavins states, in his ADN Commentary regarding the actions of Lt. Col. Cavins and the other Chaplains,: “…in 2010 and 2011, we told The Governor’s Office and his people about the issues in the Guard; we told people in the Alaska Legislature…”
One could ask when exactly in 2010 did they make this report and who were these people in the Parnell Administration and Legislature to whom they reported? Was any portion of this report forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General prior to December 5, 2010? These questions need to be asked in a forum where false statements or withholding evidence can get you in serious legal trouble not just a risk of political embarrassment.
Will these questions,as part of a judicial process, ever be asked? Apparently they won’t be asked by the current leaders in the Executive or Legislative branches of our Alaska Government. The people of Alaska can’t even read the emails. I don’t need another four years of this obfuscation.
Well one can probably excuse the obvious oversight made by Kate McPherson. I mean she does work at KTVA after all… She was probably stoned….
As far a the Kos goes (? damn that almost rhymes) well it is the Kos…. It might be years before they admit that if the (R) candidate loses then the Palin backed (I) candidate wins..
will you STOP … PLEASE… with the scare tactic fear mongering about BUTANE HASH OIL!
GET A *expletive removed* CLUE PLEASE! EVERYONE!
There are a variety of ways to make THC concentrate. Some involve butane, some involve rubbing alchohol, some involve inert gas.
WILL YOU STOP *expletive removed* FEAR MONGERING! You act like people who use marijuana don’t already have access to butane, or instructions for BHO. Will you, and all the media in this state please stop parroting the BMBM BS on this!!!
Those idiots say “bho explosions have doubled in Colorado” with 0 fatalities, mind you, and doubled to all of 12. 12 in a state of millions. Lets not forget there was no valid way to count BHO as you media type *expletive removed* had no clue what it even was until a hot second ago.
For the love of all things holy, please legalize it. We need a new industry. We need an alternative to alcohol. We need industrial hemp. Get a damned grip and a clue.

Sullivan knew nothing when he was AG……
That speaks volumes in and of itself.
What did he know when he was at DNR ?
Ross’ ad was effective until Ross got on camera. Not impressed with her.
