Here’s U.S. Sen. Mark Begich’s response to the release of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s majority report on CIA detention and interrogation following 9/11. Begich is so far the only member of the delegation to respond to what is being called the “Torture Report.“
The CIA’s troubling use of torture, which this report details, was a significant failure and it deserves our attention. The release of this report is an important step in setting the record straight so we can prevent similar techniques from happening again. Congress needs to continue to bolster oversight over our intelligence gathering agencies. As we look to the future, we must remember who we are, uphold our moral values and take a smarter approach to our national security.

Amanda,
So many of your comment writers would have felt right at home in 1970’s Argentina or pre1989 eastern Europe. Their hatred for rule-of-law and fetishizing of violence and torture is repulsive: they could all benefit from repeating their 5th grade social studies class.
Torture and indiscriminate killing are not American values. If they are yours, then might I politely suggest you move somewhere more in line with your belief system.
If the US legal system is not capable of bringing the guilty to justice, then the President should consider letting the UN Security Council refer these cases to the International Criminal Court in the Haag. Hayden and Chaney are little better than Milosevic and Mladic.
This illustrates why we voted Begich out of office.
“As we look to the future, we must remember who we are, uphold our moral values and take a smarter approach to our national security.” What a stupid, hypocritical statement, but the Dems support droning? So, let me get straight, it’s NOT OK to give terrorists nasal enemas, but it is OK to bomb a terrorist and everyone around them. This reminds me of the same perverted thinking of anti-hunters, it’s OK to buy meat at the grocery store as long as no innocent animals are killed.
